M+ Madame Song Products

We aim to create an aesthetic bridge between Madame Song’s legacy and today’s fashion, celebrating her as a trailblazer for Chinese design on a global stage.

The design of my logo and product line draws upon one of her signature art pieces, the "butterfly," a motif that often surfaced in her work as a symbol of transformation, beauty, and femininity. Inspired by the abstract shape of the butterfly in her tapestry, I incorporated the letter "S" into the form, representing both the artist’s name, "Song," and an elegant symbol of femininity. This integration of shape, letter, and symbolism creates a fluid, harmonious butterfly icon that not only pays homage to her work but also carries its spirit into a modern context.

For the product designs, I developed patterns using this butterfly icon, echoing traditional Chinese motifs while introducing a contemporary flair. The repeated iconography recalls classical Chinese patterns, which often featured recurring natural elements and symmetrical forms, but I modernized it with bold color choices and dynamic lines.
